I'm using Microsoft PowerPoint 2011 on a Mac. When I use 'Save As...' and choose PDF format, I would like a PDF that has all the slides except for slides marked as Hidden in my slide deck. But I always get all slides in the PDF.
This is a problem, of course, because hidden slides are hidden because they aren't ready for public viewing.
I would think there should be an option to suppress hidden slides, but I can't find one. My colleagues who use Windows do seem to have the option on MS PowerPoint for Windows.
It is possible to suppress hidden slides during Print... but then I am at the mercy of print formatting, and the PDF contains print margins that I can't suppress.
Has anyone found a solution for this?

There appears to be no way to make 'Save As PDF' skip hidden slides on the Mac version of Powerpoint.
So the workaround is to use Print instead, and print to PDF within that dialog. One can fix the margin issue this way:
- Open the Print dialog.
- Click
Page Setup...
to choose a paper size. - Change the Width and Height to match the full width and height of the paper you choose. For example, if you select Letter size, the default width and height are 10' x 7.5', so change it to be 11' x 8.5'.
- Now one can print to paper or print to PDF and get the full bleed, and hidden slides stay hidden.

Instead of Save As... PDF, Print->'Save as PDF'. You can get around the print margins by setting up a printer/presentation that has no margins, 'full bleed'.
A few important steps:
- First, go to File -> Page Setup and make sure that you've got the dimensions there identical for the default paper size in the printer. In my case, it's 8.5 x 11 inches for Letter size paper. Read the dialog box carefully, and select the option that lets you set a size larger than the printer will allow.
- In the print dialog, make sure you do NOT have 'scale to fit paper' checked.
You should now see that the print preview in the print dialog is edge to edge.

Another approach would be to move all the hidden slides to the end of the presentation, Save as PDF, and then excise the hidden slides after creating the PDF. You could always insert a slide before the hidden slides stating that 'The following slides are not part of this presentation'...just in case you forget to remove them from the PDF before circulating.

Like rulers, guides in PowerPoint allow you to position and snap your slideobjects in place. When you enable guides in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac, you see one horizontaland one vertical guide, as shown in Figure 1 below. Typically, these guides are blue in color.
Figure 1: Guides on PowerPoint slide
To enable these guides, you choose the View | Guides | Static Guides optionthat you can see in Figure 2 (the second option in the highlighted red box).
Figure 2: Static and Dynamic Guides options
As you can see in Figure 2 above, the Guides sub-menu provides options to enable two typesof guides: Dynamic and Static, you already saw how Static guides look like in Figure 1, previously on this page.Dynamic guides on the other hand are not visible all the time. We will explore them later in this tutorial.
By default the guides may not be enabled on your slide. Enabling them though can help while working with positioning any ofyour slide objects. Also, if you need to position certain objects at the same position on successive slides, guides can be anamazing help! In subsequent tutorials, we will explore techniques that help you work with guides, or even create new guides. Inthis tutorial, you will learn how to get started with these two types of guides in PowerPoint 2011:
Dynamic Guides
- Launch PowerPoint 2011. Typically, the program opens a new presentation with a blank slide as shown in Figure 3 below. As youcan see, there are no guides visible by default.
Figure 3: Default PowerPoint interface with no guides visible- To make the Dynamic guides visible, select the View | Guides | Dynamic Guides menuoption as shown in Figure 4.
Figure 4: Dynamic Guides option within the Guides sub-menu- Even though the Dynamic guides are enabled now, you won't be able to see them on your slide. But, when you are working withsome slide object(s), for example, when you move shapes from oneplace to another within the Slide Area, you can see Dynamic guidesmaking an appearance, as shown in Figure 5, below:
Figure 5: Dynamic guides appear only when moving the slide objects in the slide area- To disable the Dynamic guides, select the View | Guides | Dynamic Guidesmenu option again so that this option is unchecked.

Static Guides
Powerpoint
- To enable Static guides, select the View | Guides | Static Guides menuoption as shown in Figure 6.

Figure 7: Static Guides visible on the PowerPoint 2011 slide- These guides will be visible on all presentations you open hereafter, until you hide them by selecting theView | Guides | Static Guides menu option again to uncheck it.
